O.K.I 11-Year Single Barrel Rye #144 126.1 proof – Selected by Seelbach’s
Age:Â 11-year
Proof: 126.1
Mashbill: 95/5
Tasting Notes:
If you’ve ever been afraid of oak in an older rye, this one is for you.
The nose gives little indication of its true age, giving tons of candied, sugary fruit sweetness with lingering cane sugar sweetness. Candied red apple, cream soda, soft leather, and caramel sauce also all come to mind.
The palate leads much the same way – lots of fruit ring-like sweetness from cherry to peach to lemon and lime. As it opens, its age begins to slowly reveal itself, but never not being coated in maple cotton candy and concentrated baked apples.
The finish is long and shows much of the pours complexities, dancing between dark brown sugar and spiced apples and then swinging back to effervescent lemon-lime soda. Give it a little time, the dance is worth the wait, as it finally displays its oak and leather inn the final act.
